The Copa América, name given to the Trophy won by the winner of the competition, was offered to the Conmebol by the Foreign Relations Minister of Argentina in 1916. The Cup was bought in a jewelry store in Buenos Aires, and at the time its cost was 3.000 Swiss Francs.
The Cup is adorned in silver, with a wooden base that contains the various plaques with the years in which the competitons were held, and the respective winners.
To date, the countries that have won this Cup were Argentina (14), Uruguai (14), Brasil (8), Paraguai (2), Peru (2), Bolívia (1) and Colômbia (1).
Stars such as Ricardo Gomes, Oscar Ruggeri, Enzo Francescoli, Dunga, Cafu, Iván Córdoba, Alex and Juan have had the honor to lift the Cup in recent years.
Confederação Sul-Americana de Futebol, also known as Conmebol, was founded on July 9th 1916, after the successful first Copa América edition.
